16-Step Furniture Finish
We take several additional step-16 in all – to ensure that we give our customers the finest finish available. Our finishes are skillfully applied resulting in a smooth and durable surface.
Creating a fine furniture quality finish begins long before any stains or paints are applied. In order to create a beautiful finish, we start out by selecting premium quality, Cherry and Alder lumber and select veneers.
Wood components are meticulously cared for throughout our process. From precise machining, through delicate hand sanding steps,we take great care in starting the process out well.

Below you will find listed the steps that we take to create our beautiful St. Martin finish.
Wood Color Adjustment | Each wood component is examined and toned to a uniform color. |
Base Color | Base color is applied by hand spray and allowed to air dry for thirty minutes. |
Wash Coat | Wash coat is applied by hand spray. |
Air Drying & Oven Cure | Each component air dries five to ten minutes and then is oven cured for thirty minutes. |
Hand Sanding | Sealed surfaces are now hand sanded with 400 grit sand paper. |
Glaze | Glaze is applied utilizing a soft bristled glazing brush to enhance grain detail. |
Oven Cure | Finish is allowed to oven cure for twenty minutes. |
Sealer Applied | A durable sealer is applied to strengthen the finish and seal out moisture. |
Air Drying & Oven Cure | Parts air dried for ten minutes and then cycle into drying ovens to cure for thirty minutes. |
Hand Sanding | Sealed surfaces are now hand sanded with 400 grit sand paper. |
Wash Coat | A second wash coat is now hand sprayed on to components. |
Color Adjustment | Here we apply a final finish adjustment to ensure consistent color on all pieces. |
Second Sealer Coat Applied | Parts receive a second sealer coat to increase durability. |
Air Drying & Oven Cure | Each component air dries five to ten minutes and then is oven cured for thirty minutes. |
Hand Sanding | Sealed surfaces are hand sanded with 400 grit sand paper creating a very smooth and uniform surface. |
Top Coat & Inspection | A premium quality catalyzed conversion varnish top coat is applied making our products scratch, scuff, moisture and stain resistant. Parts are air dried for fifteen minutes and are moved to drying ovens to cure for a minimum of one hour. Our last step is rigorous final inspection ensuring that each finished part meets our very rigid quality standards. |
